Still looking for a prime alternative to Snappy TV?
When we first posted this blog, Twitter had started winding down its popular video production tool, Snappy TV. This updated post follows the news that Twitter will shut down the tool by 31 December 2019. In SnappyTV’s place comes LiveCut, as part of the Twitter Media Studio.
Let’s cut to the chase…
SnappyTV has been good. But LiveCut is far too limited. Within LiveCut, clips can only be published to Twitter and it looks to have very basic functionality.
If you simply want to create clips from your Twitter or Periscope broadcast, and share these clips to Twitter only, then LiveCut could be for you. But is that ambitious enough for you? Really?
It’s more likely that you’re looking to master live video clipping and want rich features at your fingertips – and already have a wish list you’ve compiled, which LiveCut just doesn’t match up to.
Get video clipping features that meet your ambitions
Ours is an advanced, cloud-based video clipping, production, streaming and distribution platform. It delivers the features you’re going to need to deliver on your live video ambitions.
Ambition 1 › You want to engage with audiences across all social channels
Firstly, with LiveCut if you want to set up a broadcast that streams beyond Twitter and Periscope, you’re unable to. With Tellyo, however, you can stream to limitless digital and social media destinations simultaneously. Our platform works with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, China’s Sina Weibo, Russia’s VKontakte to name just a few, as well as the main CMS providers like Brightcove or any other destination via a custom RTMP solution.
With so many options – to distribute content across digital channels, websites, social media, apps and OTT platforms – your video goals can be much more ambitious.
At the same time as your stream is being broadcast, within Tellyo you can use our powerful Editor to create video clips and share these to all your social channels simultaneously as well. Once ready, publish clips to your channels with just one click.
Ambition 2 › You don’t just want clips but really captivating videos
Here’s the deal, with both Tellyo and LiveCut you can create clips. But with LiveCut, beyond setting a start and end point for your clip, that’s it. What happens if you want to create truly captivating ‘in the moment’ compilations, or include bumpers and overlays in a final edit?
With our Tellyo Editor you can do so much more. Working on just one screen in your browser you can:
- Create frame accurate compilations of clips, not just a single clip
- Work with up to 8 audio-tracks and select the right ones for your audience
- Add visuals – like overlays and transition effects – to better engage viewers
- Use bumpers (pre, mid and post rolls) as an added dimension to your clips
- Include subtitles to engage audiences even when watching with the sound off
- Optimise videos for mobile and social platforms with square and vertical aspect ratios
- Create richer digital assets like GIFs and stills to give your audiences more
- Add letterbox-style copy to videos, GIFs and stills
- Use live metadata to assist clip creation and post writing, automating some or all of your processes so you speed up workflows
- Monetise clips with sponsored bumpers, watermarks and partner logos
Ambition 3 › You want to clip videos but with more advanced controls in place
So, in LiveCut your people are creating clips from your live broadcast… But how do you then maintain control over the way in which clips are created, distributed and viewed?
Because our Tellyo platform is a more comprehensive offering, you can easily manage users and rights, and stay in complete control:
- Manage temporal and global rights in a dedicated area, where access can be granted or revoked
- Mandate appropriate branding and sponsorship on specific video clips
- Enable remote working but with roles, responsibilities and rights clearly assigned
- Encourage greater collaboration by sharing projects and giving others permission to publish your clips
- Track the performance of clips across all distribution channels, not just Twitter
- Autosave as you go, so your work can be recovered in case of any issues
Ambition 4 › You want to achieve a specific broadcast quality
Here, it’s time to get serious with a much more advanced platform like Tellyo:
- With Tellyo you can now match broadcast quality streaming inputs and outputs, including 1080p/4K resolution, up to 60fps and up to 50Mbps.
- Through Tellyo, live streams can be ingested over RTMP, HLS, SRT, RTMPS, RTSP protocols with video codecs including H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1, MPEG-2.
- Live stream ingests can include up to 8 audio tracks that can be used with outgoing clips and live streams.
- Tellyo’s closed captioning meets all industry-standard with the support of EIA/CEA-608, EIA/CEA-708, SRT, WebVTT, DVB Teletext, DVB Subtitles.
If you’re looking for a SnappyTV alternative, or unsure about LiveCut’s capabilities, talk to us today. Like you, we’re ambitious when it comes to live video production, so let’s discuss how we can work together.

Meet our exciting new solutions, plus our Twitter partnership goes live!
This week we’re launching three exciting new solutions – Stream Studio, Smart Clips and Auto Clip-to-Post – as well as our Pro Media API partnership with Twitter. All will make their first appearances at the IBC Show 2018 in Amsterdam, which we’ll attending from Friday.
What’s the story behind our announcements? Because we’re driven to continuously deliver intelligent technology, our new solutions and Twitter partnership are designed to better enable digital and social teams to build video stories quickly and amplify these across the web, all in a highly managed, monetizable and secure way.
Our new solutions
These include a new product – Stream Studio – and two major feature upgrades in Smart Clips and Auto Clip-to-Post.

Our Twitter Pro Media Partnership
All of the new solutions build upon our firm belief that the best stories are told by humans to humans, which has resulted in us putting considerable energy into empowering digital teams and social video editors, and equipping them with world-class technology solutions.
A clear example is our official Twitter Pro Media partnership, which now provides our existing and future clients with the highest level of video integration on Twitter.
The new partnership adds 20+ new Twitter features, including extended monetisation opportunities such as the Amplify Publisher Program and In-Stream Ads and Sponsorships, as well as enhanced geo-targeting, advanced meta-tagging and simplified publishing workflows.
“I’m delighted to announce the launch of our three new solutions – Stream Studio, Smart Clips and Auto Clip-to-Post – as well as our partnership with Twitter. These new developments will give more power to digital teams, social video editors and creators by delivering greater tools for getting video stories out quickly and more effectively shaping the narrative across online and social media channels. Our Twitter partnership will also enable teams, editors and creators to maximise video story telling on one of the globe’s favourite digital channels.”
Awesome viewing as Dutch cyclist Beukeboom claims 4th longest distance for UCI Hour Record
Last night, Dutch racer Dion Beukeboom attempted to break the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Hour Record, gunning for Sir Bradley Wiggins’s iconic feat from three years ago.
Chasing the record at the Aguascalientes velodrome in Mexico, Beukeboom recorded 52.757 kilometres, ranking him 4th in distance covered in the illustrious event but still shy of Wiggins’s amazing mark of 54.526 kilometres which was set at London’s Olympic Velodrome in 2015.
Enabling global fans to witness this latest attempt at cycling’s most prestigious record, the UCI live streamed the event to Facebook and the UCI YouTube channel (tv.uci.ch). It also used Tellyo to create and share short clips of key moments to social media throughout Beukeboom’s attempt.
“Tellyo is delighted to have worked with the UCI on such a prestigious event. Through Tellyo, the UCI were able to capture key moments of the attempt, and create and share video edits, GIFs and still images across their social media, helping to engage their audience, share updates on progress and ultimately guide more viewers to the live stream.
“It was compelling viewing and congratulations should go to Beukeboom – it was a superb effort and truly awesome to watch.”

We’re proud to help SportsPro Live in their success!
We were extremely proud to partner with SportsPro Live at its London conference last week.
By supporting SportsPro teams on the ground throughout the event, we helped to ensure that the conference’s content was fully amplified across social media.
During the two day conference, forty-two conference videos were created and shared using our Tellyo video production tool. The videos were available via the @SportsProLive twitter stream (see below), helping to drive social reach and engagement levels to new levels.
Held at Wembley Stadium, the SportsPro Live event was filled with high-calibre people and presented in-depth discussion about burning topics within the sports industry.
Nick Meacham, SportsPro’s Managing Director, said about Tellyo:
“Tellyo has delivered excellent results elsewhere in the industry so when it came to choosing a partner to ensure our content enjoyed the best possible promotion, they were the clearest team to work with.”
Speaking about the partnership prior to the event, our CEO, Richard Collins, was quick to express our team’s excitement about partnering with SportsPro Live. Richard added:
“SportsPro Live also offers us the opportunity to showcase Tellyo’s service to leading industry professionals.”
We’re exhibiting at SportsPro Live in London
SportsPro Live is one of the major sports conferences on the exhibition circuit. It is a great opportunity for us to meet people in the industry. We’re also going to showcase our social video production, editing and sharing platform.
This year’s event takes place on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 March at Wembley Stadium in London. Proud of its international reach, the event’s global speaker line-up reflects this. It includes top executives from the UFC, ESPN, the Seattle Sounders, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, AC Milan, and many more.
Tackling the big questions facing sports
Billed as willing to take on the big questions facing the sports business, SportsPro Live 2017 will consider every topic from each side. That includes rights holders, brands and partners. It will also look outside sport for new perspectives from the likes of Mike Moffo, a digital strategist for Airbnb and consultant to both Obama presidential campaigns. The aim being to answer key questions about the forces reforming the frontiers of the industry.
For us, there are seismic changes in the way sports video content is being delivered to and consumed by fans. This is coupled with new concepts (such as e-sports) and new online opportunities for smaller federations and governing bodies (such as our recent partnership with the International Table Tennis Federation). In-turn, these changes are disrupting commercial models, and impacting distribution deals and broadcast rights.
Our Tellyo platform provides the tools to help rights holders, brands and partners meet the challenges ahead.
Meet us on our stand
If you want to find out more about Tellyo, visit our stand. Come and meet us, and see how our social video production, editing and sharing platform works. Our stand is right next to the exit from the plenary and it’s really easy to spot.
If you’d like to schedule a meeting at SportsPro, just drop us an email at contact@tellyo.com
See you there!
We’re at the Mobile World Congress
We’re attending this week’s Mobile World Congress. The event is the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry, organised by the GSMA and held in Barcelona between 27 February – 2 March 2017.
There is an exciting agenda for this year’s conference. And we’re particularly looking forward to ‘The fan experience’ and ‘Optimising exceptional video experiences’.
The fan experience
The fan experience will look at how connectivity is shaping the way in which we watch and experience live sporting events. The session will highlight innovative applications that are enhancing the fan experience.
We provide social video tools to sports brands, which in-turn enable their fans to become active participants in social experiences. It’s a subject that’s close to our heart, one we recently touched upon in our blog 5 sports brands mastering real-time video marketing.
Optimising exceptional video experiences
Optimising exceptional video experiences will look at content delivery at the network edge, the latest techniques in optimisation and compression and technologies like UHD and LTE Broadcast. These all offer opportunities to deliver unparalleled video experiences on mobile networks, whilst offering new business models to operators.
If you’d like to meet us there give us a shout on Twitter at @TellyoTV We hope to see you at the conference!
